WestJet – Once in Budget and Always in the Budget
WestJet Airlines Ltd. trading as WestJet is a budget airline acquired under the commercial agreement of Onex Corp. was originally designed and structured for the low-cost budget by Morris Air and Southwest Airlines. The name originates from its flying route, which was Western Canada. The airline entered competitive edge with Air Canada, with superb in-flight experience. The airline was initiated by Neeleman with the airline in 1996, and later on, he went straight to JetBlue in the year 1998 based on a similar idea and structure as WestJet.
From Calgary to Everywhere Else
WestJet is designed to operate on the Western Canadian aviation market, comprising the principal Canadian cities such as Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna besides Winnipeg. In the situation that holds now, the airline is serving complete Canada and even the regions that travel beyond the Canadian air space. The key hub of WestJet is situated at Calgary International Airport. Besides Calgary, there are additional two hubs –one on Vancouver International Airport settled on the West coast of Canada, while another hub is established on Toronto Pearson International Airport in Eastern Canada.
Bombed the Regional Air Market with Boeing 737 fleet
While still in the stage of infancy, the WestJet embarked on its journey with a 100% Boeing 737 Fleet. And this was quite contradictory to the liking of Neeleman, who had earlier included Airbus for JetBlue and two other low-cost brands such as TAP Air Portugal and Azul Brazilian Airlines.
Growing Up from the Infancy
WestJet started flying of Boeing 737-200 fleet during its heydays, but soon it transformed itself by acquiring aircraft like Boeing 737 Next Generation, and this also includes the Boeing 737-600/-700/-800. Presently, the airline makes extensive use of the Boeing 737 series, but alongside uses737 MAX aircraft. WestJet has also given the order for Boeing 767-300ER as well as the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, and acquiring this airline is obviously the best thing to go out for the business expansion.
How the Transatlantic Service Began?
WestJet’s transatlantic service began from Canada and continued within the North American region because of the flying range of its fleet that had Boeing 737. However, there were few flights that flew from Eastern Canada to as far as Dublin and Glasgow.
The recent expansion of WestJet following the procurement of Boeing 767-300ER aircraft has enabled the carrier to fly to Winnipeg and Edmonton. With its Boeing 767-300ER, the airline is serving only one European destination – London.
